In France, standard sets often rent for €80 to €150 per weekend. The €120 weekend assumption, or €60 per day, is therefore cautious for rustic weddings, school fairs, birthdays and company celebrations.
With 70 rental days per year, theoretical revenue reaches €4,200 before expenses and taxes. Demand peaks in fair weather, while corporate events and indoor celebrations can bring bookings outside the main season.
A set of 10 to 15 games costs around €1,500. Maintenance remains limited: 5% per year for varnish, sanding and replacement parts, plus about €150 in fixed costs. Also allow for storage, fuel, payments, social contributions and preparation time.
Professional public liability insurance is not automatically compulsory for an unregulated rental activity in France, but it is strongly recommended. Check cover for damage, transport, theft and storage, then declare business use of the vehicle. A contract, photographed inventory and sensible deposit reduce disputes but do not replace insurance.
Build two or three clear packages and charge separately for delivery, setup and hosting. Add a photo booth or decoration as an optional extra. Foldable games that fit in a car boot and travel in protective covers make this side business more accessible.
Open online booking instead of re-entering enquiries and deposits from calls and spreadsheets. Louez.io can bring together availability, payments, contracts and deposits. Track kilometres, time, repairs and enquiry source to measure the real margin.
Allow around €1,500 for an initial set of 10 to 15 sturdy giant games. Add covers, crates, spare parts, rule cards and dry storage. A dedicated vehicle is not always needed: foldable models can fit in a car boot with the seats down. Begin with a versatile collection, then buy additional games in response to the enquiries you genuinely have to decline.
Professional public liability insurance is not generally compulsory for an unregulated rental activity in France, but it is strongly recommended. Ask the insurer to confirm in writing cover for participant injury, damage at the venue, theft, storage and transport. Also declare business use of your car. A contract, inventory and deposit make breakages easier to handle, but they do not replace suitable cover.
In France, micro-entrepreneur status is often suitable for testing this business alone alongside a job, with lighter formalities and accounting. Equipment rental is generally a commercial activity, which should be confirmed when registering through the one-stop shop. As actual expenses are not deducted under this regime, compare it with a business taxed on actual profits if stock, storage, deliveries or purchases increase significantly.
The business can be profitable if the set goes out regularly and journeys remain short. At 70 days billed at €60, indicative revenue reaches €4,200. After €75 in maintenance and €150 in fixed costs, €3,975 remains before transport, work time, payment fees, social contributions and tax. Low maintenance and car-based transport keep this side business accessible, but seasonality means bookings need to be prepared early.
In France, many simple packages fall between €80 and €150 per weekend. The €120 benchmark suits a standard collection collected on site without a host. Adjust for the number and size of games, distance, setup and duration. Display extras clearly and keep the deposit reasonable, based on replacement cost rather than the hire price.
