The things that leave with your customer
Wax, gas cartridges, bags: everything that never comes back. Switch a product to "Consumable" and its quantity becomes stock on the shelf — down on every confirmed booking, back up if it is cancelled or rejected, and no longer tied to the dates.
Louez counted stock one way only: an item goes out, it comes back, it becomes available again. Wax, gas cartridges, straps and bags never fitted that model. They fit now, under a stock type of their own.
Two stock types
The Stock card carries a "Stock type" selector, with two values:
- Returnable stock — the old behaviour, the one all your gear uses. The item comes back after each rental and becomes available again.
- Consumable — the item leaves with the customer. Its quantity is no longer a fleet, it is stock on the shelf.
When stock moves
A consumable's stock goes down the moment the reservation is confirmed, not when it is created. It goes back up if the reservation is cancelled or rejected. A completed reservation leaves it consumed, which is the whole point.
Since the item never comes back, its availability has no time dimension. There is no more "free from the 12th to the 15th": there is a quantity on the shelf, minus what ongoing reservations have already claimed.
Two conditions before you can pick it
The Consumable option stays out of reach until two things hold, and the menu tells you which one is missing:
- the product must be on a flat rate — a consumable is not billed by duration;
- it must not be tracked unit by unit — you do not trace items one by one when they never come back.
Switch a consumable back to duration pricing and it returns to returnable stock.
The stock type locks itself
As soon as a product is committed to a confirmed or ongoing reservation, the selector gives way to a Stock type locked button, which opens the list of blocking reservations. They are clickable: cancel or complete them and the choice reopens.
That is deliberate. Flipping the stock type under a live reservation would falsify everything already counted.
What it looks like on screen
On the product page, a consumable carries a Consumable badge and its quantity is labelled On the shelf. In the shop, a consumable that has run out disables booking and says why — "Consumable out of stock" — instead of showing an empty calendar with no explanation.
