Start a Bounce House Rental Business
Bounce house rental is appealing because one unit can generate several times its purchase price in revenue. But the work is not simply dropping off a game in a garden. You need to transport a bulky item, watch the weather, install every anchor correctly and return a clean, dry unit to service quickly.
This guide uses the calculator scenario: around €1,800 to buy, €140 per day, 60 rental days per year, 8% maintenance and nearly €600 in fixed costs for public liability insurance and fuel. These assumptions create a forecast, not a promise. Your area, weather, customers and time spent will change the outcome.

Understand the market and rental season
In France, demand comes from birthdays, weddings and family celebrations, as well as school fairs, associations, schools, campsites, local authorities, employee committees and businesses. Private customers want straightforward entertainment for a day. Public bodies generally expect more documentation and punctuality; some also require an attendant. These segments therefore need different quotes and levels of service.
Business usually concentrates from April to October, with peaks around weekends, public holidays and school events. July and August bring tourist events, but also heat, storms and holidays. Build low, central and high scenarios: several weather cancellations can wipe out a month’s margin. Start locally and expand the fleet when declined enquiries prove demand.
Set your budget and choose the right equipment
A versatile professional unit costs around €1,800 in this scenario. Beyond the theme, check folded weight, bag dimensions, blower power, capacity, permitted ages, spare-parts availability and what is included. A model too heavy to move alone or too large for typical local gardens adds costs to every rental. Starting with one model also makes inspections and spare parts easier.
Choose identifiable, documented equipment compliant with NF EN 14960-1. Keep the manual, invoice, technical sheet and maintenance record. Add a groundsheet, mats, cables, anchors, straps, ballast and a suitable anemometer. A rolled-up unit remains bulky: an enclosed trailer protects the fabric and makes delivery easier. Finally, plan a covered area to clean, dry fully and store it away from moisture.
- Unit, blower and accessories designed for professional use
- Trailer or vehicle sized for the actual weight and volume
- Complete equipment for anchoring, protection, checks and cleaning
- Enough space to wash, dry and store the fabric unfolded
Choose a business structure, insure it and operate safely
In France, micro-entrepreneur status is often a good way to test the business alone: formalities are light and contributions are calculated on revenue received. Its limitation matters here: equipment, fuel, insurance, storage and repairs are not deducted from declared revenue. As the fleet or costs grow, compare a sole proprietorship under the actual-expenses regime and a company with an accountant. Also check VAT, business property tax, registered address and business use of the vehicle.
Suitable public liability insurance is essential in practice. Request written cover for bodily injury, property damage and consequential loss during delivery, setup, rental and takedown. Review exclusions relating to wind, supervision, lending and equipment, then insure the vehicle, trailer and storage where needed. A deposit covers certain damage; it never replaces insurance or compliant installation.
Before inflating, inspect the ground, obstacles, electrical access, mats and every anchor specified by the manufacturer. On hard ground, use the ballast set out in the instructions. The unit must remain under the active supervision of an adult able to limit users and stop play. Outdoors, 38 km/h is a maximum limit: stop earlier if the manufacturer requires it or gusts are approaching. After every rental, inspect, clean and dry the fabric completely.
- Ground, weather, anchors, mats, blower and cables checked before opening
- A responsible adult identified and supervising throughout use
- Immediate stop for excessive wind, storms or uncertain anchoring
- Inspection, cleaning and full drying logged after the rental
Set prices that cover the logistics
For a standard bounce house, visible prices in France often range from €100 to €180 per day. Large obstacle courses, slides, long deliveries or an attendant cost more. The central €140 assumption is realistic for a versatile model, but compare like-for-like offers: collection only, delivery, setup and supervision are not the same product.
At €140 for 60 days, one unit generates around €8,400 in annual revenue. Deduct around €144 for maintenance, or 8% of the purchase price, and nearly €600 in fixed costs in this scenario, then contributions, tax, payments, repairs and work time. Display a clear rate card for day hire, weekends, delivery, setup and supervision. Put weather postponement, delays, cleaning and damage rules in writing before payment.
Find your first local customers
Create a business listing that shows your service area, real photos, dimensions, age range, capacity, prices and delivery terms. Target local searches and answer practical questions directly: space required, power supply, setup and what happens if it rains. Classified platforms can start enquiries, but a complete page screens customers better and limits conversations that do not lead to a booking.
Contact schools, parent associations, local authorities, campsites, venues, event agencies and employee committees before their event calendars are set. Send a short sheet covering compliance, insurance, dimensions, power requirements, weather procedure and rates. Then ask satisfied customers for a review. Track enquiry sources, won quotes, dates declined and cancellation reasons: this data tells you which unit to buy and which channels deserve your time.
- Local search visibility with prices and practical constraints clearly shown
- Partnerships prepared before school fairs and peak season
- Real photos showing the space required and installation quality
- Tracking of won, lost and stock-limited enquiries
Manage bookings, contracts, payments and deposits
Phone calls and spreadsheets become fragile when several enquiries target the same Saturday. Each booking must reserve a specific unit and allow for delivery, setup, collection, inspection, washing and drying. Leave time between customers: fabric returned wet on Sunday evening may not be ready on Monday morning. Identify blowers and accessories too, so items do not get mixed between sets.
The contract should state the customer’s identity, dates, address, price, deposit, inventory, usage rules, supervision, weather, delays, damage and return terms. Have it signed before handover and attach photos. Louez.io brings together online availability, booking, payment, contracts and deposits instead of copying details between calls, messages and spreadsheets. Whatever tool you use, test weather cancellation, postponement, refund, address changes and deposit release on mobile.
- Before departure: payment, signature, inventory, photos and instructions
- On site: validated ground, complete anchoring and a responsible adult identified
- On return: inspection, documented incident, cleaning and drying
- After checks: deposit released and availability updated
Avoid the mistakes that destroy profitability
Do not buy several units before validating demand. Do not underprice delivery either: loading, driving, setup, explaining, returning and cleaning take hours. Calculate the margin on every rental, including kilometres and time. Decline unsuitable ground, weather or supervision, even if it means losing a sale. An accident, mouldy fabric or a failed blower costs more than a cancelled weekend.
Never manage the business on revenue alone. Track, by unit, available days, rental days, discounts, kilometres, handling, cancellations, maintenance and incidents. Compare actual results with the calculator scenario each month. You will see whether the priority is raising prices, reducing the delivery area, filling quiet days or buying another model. Gradual growth protects cash flow better than a fleet that is rarely used.
- An oversized fleet before local demand has been proven
- Delivery, setup and cleaning included without a calculated cost
- A booking accepted despite unsafe wind, ground or supervision
- A unit stored wet or rented again without a full inspection
- Confusing revenue, margin and personal income
